Now scheduling Fall 2008 sessions - Office closed notice

Today’s forecast high 76 - 76?!! The extended 10 day forecast here in the Washington DC area looks awesome. For those who have sessions the remainder of this week, how lucky did you get with the weather? Score.

With the hint of the pleasant temperatures just a reminder, September is around the corner. Susan Braswell Photography now has the remaining 2008 calendar open for Fall/Late Fall sessions. Please contact the office to make your appointment.

Please note the office will be closed from Saturday, August 16th through Sunday, August 24th. All calls and emails will be returned accordingly upon my return.

I have been busy with sessions and have not been able to blog each and every one, I apologize in advance. I will however set up automatic posting with some sneak peeks of while I am on vacation.

How about an outtake - that I might just include in the gallery. A little scream goes a long way LOL. Believe it or not, before and after this shot some super stuff was captured. Dad gets brownie points for sure, this entire session was a surprise for his wife - a 10th anniversary gift. Mom got to stay home and pamper herself while dad did it all. As a wife and mother myself, I’d be mush if my husband did something like this.

Me+Flopsy+90 plus degree weather=not so great. Isn’t this the sweetest set with beret? If she could only talk she would have told us how crazy this was - alas it lasted maybe 3 minutes. This 9 month old client was seriously one of the *happiest* smiliest babies ever (although she is staring with intent and curiousity here). What a blessing she is to your family, thank you and I truly enjoyed meeting you.

I lost my voice after this session, seriously. The stars were aligned as a few dates needed to be worked out and with their busy hectic schedule getting ready for vacation, try outs, college it was the one and only night to do the session. I will probably add a few more as there are just too many I adored. These kids (and mom and dad) were just awesome to work with. I enjoyed meeting you and will be in touch!

Professional Photographer Magazine - spotlight, featured article August 2008 issue

Pinch me, words can not describe how elated and honored I am to have a feature in such a major publication. I mean not just national but world wide. What an accolade this is. Just to mention the premise of the article is about me, how I started and where I am today in my 4th year of business. I do however want to mention, I honestly believe this career path was in *my* cards, the path has been paved open and easy for me BUT don’t let it fool you, this is extremely hard but rewarding work. Onto the glory - lil snippets. I am by no means a product photographer so I tried my best and may retake a few to permanently put on my website. I can’t wait to share this moment one day with my grandkids and so on. It would be kind of cool to have a custom memory box made with my signage from my former studio in Old Town Alexandria on King Street, the magazine and a lot of little things along his journey, including some pictures of my clients over the years to frame. I truly love what I do and hope this feeling will stay indefinitely.

One last thing, I received a few copies of the magazine itself and some tear sheets. By request I was asked to submit quite a large amount of images so therefore I was not sure which were actually selected (there is one more sibling shot on the last page missing here). For those who were featured here, I will send you the entire article with the image featured as your own personal keepsake. I was so unsure of how these would print in CYMK as I know how they look on my screen and more importantly printed by my pro lab. Some of the copies here have some sort of funky magenta color cast on a few of the pictures, some are just like I thought they should print.

Okay first off, seriously I am still amazed at this feat. Who does this? I know I can only speak for myself but I have never seen someone balance a 9 month old baby with their hands. Dad was so cute walking around and she got a kick out of it. Apparently he did this with all of his girls. How cool is that? This indeed was a fun shoot a while back, the oldest was quite smitten with a real interest in photography. She seriously had such a good eye for composition, if only she was a bit older I’d use her as my assistant.

On my “to-do” list is to make blog posting a priority, maybe not daily but at least give a dose of a sneak peek from my sessions. This preview is a layout I compiled as either a storyboard or even wall display each beside one another. I love how these three “fit”. While this session was weeks ago, I plan on trying to get up to speed and share some of my recent sessions throughout the last few weeks one-at-a-time.

On a side note, it is now after midnight and officially August! I have been waiting impatiently I might add for what feels like forever .. in the next few days a nice big magazine should be hitting my mailbox and inside is a feature article with (I believe) lots of pictures. As soon as I get it and/or the tear sheets - in the next week I will take a bunch of pictures of the spread. It’s an honor, it’s surreal and in my eyes a once in a lifetime opportunity .. more to come soon!

I had the pleasure of photographing these boy/girl twins back when they were around 15 months old who are now in their 3’s. It truly was a delight and what perfect weather. I sure hope they enjoyed that Rainbow ice cream I have to admit I love, love, love the one of them kissing. awww

Can I hire MY client as a personal shopper for my kids?

I walked into my clients home for their appointment and I immediately thought - this woman not only has the best taste in clothing but so meticulous. Everything was all paired up for boy/girl complimenting outfits so neatly pressed laid out all over the couch and then some. I think we barely got to 3, there must have been 10 more and wish I had more time to get to a few more. I have a few more sneak peeks I’d like to add but need to get them prepared for web viewing. I’ll add more later!!

So I’ve been renting this fun wide angle lens and have had a blast using in recent sessions. I am so buying this lens, it is being added to my collection for sure. What I love most about it is the way it captures the sky and candid moments. I admit using the lenses I do, I am generally quite far away from clients - with this one I could reach out and touch someone in an instant. So a few cool funky perspectives and a few with my favorite portrait lenses I could not do without.
